My name is Father João Paulo, a priest of the Congregation of Saint John, currently serving in Salvador, Brazil. Our mission is centered on forming disciples, accompanying families, and offering spiritual guidance to lay people who live in the world while seeking a deep relationship with God.
In Salvador, Brazil, we run a monastery where we offer daily Mass, confessions, retreats, and formation programs. We also provide spiritual accompaniment, theology and philosophy courses, and outreach to those seeking to grow in faith and understanding. Our apostolate is rooted in prayer, fraternal life, and the desire to communicate the contemplative light of the Gospel.
A significant part of our ministry takes place in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Salvador, where many families face extreme financial hardship, insecurity, and moral disorientation. We accompany people who often feel forgotten—those struggling with broken homes, unemployment, and lack of access to spiritual and human formation. They come to us not only for material support, but seeking meaning, dignity, and hope.
Our community includes not only religious brothers but also lay men and women—some of whom live in the world as consecrated lay members. Together, we share a spirituality inspired by Saint John the Apostle, striving to live in the heart of the Church and serve wherever the need is greatest.
Sustaining the Mission: As our mission grows, so do the costs of daily life, pastoral outreach, and maintaining our monastic house. We live simply, but the burden of ongoing expenses is real.
Formation of New Brothers: We currently accompany young men who have begun their path toward religious life. Their formation requires housing, education, meals, and medical care—all of which depend on external support, as our local resources are limited.
