Ever wonder what happens when you place $5, $10, $20, or more into your special collection envelope for World Mission Sunday, or when you donate online for this important cause?
After your generous offering is placed in the collection basket, your pastor sends it—along with the gifts of fellow parishioners—to the local Pontifical Mission Societies Office in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Each spring, national directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies gather in Rome to meet with their counterparts from across the globe. During this meeting, they review the offerings made by the faithful from their respective countries and carefully assess the many projects and programs in the Missions that need assistance. After prayerful consideration, they vote on which projects most urgently require support so that the “Good News” of Jesus Christ may continue to reach the hearts of all people.
Your offering on World Mission Sunday could provide Bibles for catechists in Sierra Leone, help sustain a parish in India, or support Sisters in Sudan caring for orphans in the name of Jesus. It may also provide a priest in Thailand with a bicycle to travel between villages and bring the Eucharist to the faithful. No matter where your donation goes, it carries with it the love, peace, and salvation of Christ, transforming lives and spreading His Gospel across the world.
What can my donation help accomplish this World Mission Sunday?
This World Mission Sunday, discover how your prayers and gifts through the Pontifical Mission Societies strengthen the Church in mission territories around the world. The short documentary below takes you to Xuan Loc, Vietnam—a place where the Catholic faith has endured centuries of persecution and political suppression, yet continues to flourish.
Today, Catholics make up just 7% of Vietnam’s population across 27 dioceses, relying on the support of one another and the global Church for resources, pastoral care, and vocational formation. In the Diocese of Xuan Loc, southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, one in three people is Catholic—a vibrant sign of hope. At the heart of this community is St. Joseph Major Seminary, where future priests are being formed to serve nine dioceses across southern Vietnam.
Your contribution to World Mission Sunday makes a direct impact:
$25 provides religious education materials for children in remote villages.
$50 supports a catechist bringing the Gospel to communities without a priest.
$100 helps supply medical care and medicines in Church-run clinics.
$250 provides food and basic care for religious sisters serving the poor.
$500 contributes to building and maintaining chapels, schools, and parish centers.
$700 covers one seminarian’s yearly tuition at St. Joseph Major Seminary.
Whether through your parish’s special collection, a one-time online gift, or ongoing support, your generosity ensures that the Gospel continues to be preached, celebrated, and lived in communities like Xuan Loc—and in over 1,100 mission territories worldwide.
Please watch the beautiful mini documentary below about St. Joseph Seminary in Xuan Loc to see firsthand how your prayers and gifts bring hope and form the next generation of missionary priests.
Together, let us stand with the Church in Vietnam and beyond, answering Christ’s call to be Missionaries of Hope Among the Peoples.
